Ugly Doll Baby Nursery

I love Ugly Dolls. Their simplicity and bright colors have made a warm, fun, and happy place for our son. I came up with the idea and handmade most of the accessories. A dear friend hand stitched a quilt to tie the room together. This project was an expression of my creativity

Ikea for bins, Home Depot for closet shelving, Blue rocker purchased from Craigslist.


What bedding set did you use? Where did you buy it?
Plain sheets and knit blanket from my parents.


Tell us about your window treatments, lighting, rugs, wall decor and accessories. Where did you buy them - were any handmade?
Hand made valances (created by myself and a group of friends drawing, cutting and gluing felt), lamp from my husband's childhood, mobile- lighting from Ikea with hanging Ugly Dolls, rug from Target, Mosaic on wall- MANY hours of original work, changing table from a friend and baskets were purchased from Bed, Bath and Beyond.


How did you store all your baby goodies? In baskets, on shelves?

How long did it take you? Was it easy, fun, difficult? What was your favorite part?
6-8 months to find ugly dolls deals on craigslist and ebay. 4-6 months to finish art projects and put room together. VERY FUN, fairly difficult and very time consuming- but worth EVERY moment!!!


Did you do the entire nursery on your own or did someone help you? Who? What did they do?
The room was a true group effort. My mother-in-law painted the room, and trim. My friend made the cross stitched blanket that is draped over the crib, other friends helped create the valances, my husband created the closet. I did the Ugly doll mosaic.


What do you love most about your little one's finished room?
The joy that the bright colors emits and how so much love was given by family and friends (and mama and daddy) to help create the room.
