Taking Flight Nursery

I found prints done by a 1920's artist Joaquin Xandauo depicting his ideas of air travel in the future. They had great colors and images and they inspired my taking flight nursery idea.

What brand and color of paint did you use?

We used Valspar paint from Lowes and unfortunately I don't know the paint colors. The colors are a khaki and a deep navy.

What brand of crib did you buy? Where from?

I bought the crib from a friend so I'm not sure of the brand.

What brand of furniture did you choose? Where did you buy it?

The dresser and sleigh bed were both pieces we already owned. They were purchased at Haverty's in Tuscaloosa, AL.

What bedding set did you use? Where did you buy it?

A simple cream quilted bumper in a circle and stripes pattern with a red, cream and green sheet.

Tell us about your window treatments, lighting, rugs, wall decor and accessories. Where did you buy them - were any handmade?

The window treatments are two-tone khaki and cream color block with bronze grommets. I purchased them from Wal-Mart.com.

We have Pottery Barn wooden airplanes in primary colors suspended from the ceiling at angles mimicking flight.

Continuing with the theme, we purchased a WWI Sopwith airplane propeller from mypilotstore.com and mounted it at an angle on the wall above the full bed.

The semi-modern lamp with a curvylinier bronze base and textured blue shade was found at Hobby Lobby.

Also in the room are two cross stitched vintage planes done by my Aunt Linda as a present to Bennett.

To bring a pop of color we bought a colorful rug with a half sunburst pattern from West Elm.

How did you store all your baby goodies? In baskets, on shelves?

We utilized every inch of the closet with cube storage shelves, closet dividers, baskets and a hanging shelf organizer attached to the clothes rod.

How long did it take you? Was it easy, fun, difficult? What was your favorite part?

It took us around two months. We painted and added the chair rail ourselves, as well as, hanging the propeller, airplanes and art. To save money I also did the framing myself.

What do you love most about your little one's finished room?

The art and the fact the room can grow with him.
