Royal Vintage Nursery

We used the Cotton Tale Design French Cuffs bedding set as a starting point. We wanted to have a fantasy-royal feeling to the room, so the purple color and butterflies seemed the perfect additions to the theme.

What brand and color of paint did you use?

We used Sherwin Williams paint in purple and cream shades.

If you added stripes, polka dots or other paint effects, tell us how you did it.

We put a wall decal with Giuliana's name in the center of the wall, which is the perfect way to go for a baby with no middle name. The style of the wall decal suits perfectly the royal feeling of the nursery.

What brand of crib did you buy? Where from?

We recycled the crib and dresser/changer set from our first baby girl. We bought the Eden Baby Furniture's Moderno Collection from a local baby store. We know this set will last Giuliana for many years as the crib converts to a toddler, day and full size bed.

What brand of furniture did you choose? Where did you buy it?

The changing table is from Babies R Us and the rocking chair is from Kmart.

What bedding set did you use? Where did you buy it?

We also recycled the Cotton Tale Design French Cuffs bedding set, that we had bought on eBay!

Tell us about your window treatments, lighting, rugs, wall decor and accessories. Where did you buy them - were any handmade?

We ordered from Ebay a vintage shabby French bed Crown that is the perfect touch for the royal vintage nursery theme. I added tulle fabric in baby pink that complemented perfectly the purple wall and framed beautifully the wall decal with Giuliana's name.

The valance and the lamp are from the French Cuff collection. I added silk roses to the lamp shade. The sheer and purple treatments are from a local store. I added an ivory trim to the purple treatments to add a romantic touch, complemented with the spray-painted nosegays of roses on the sides.

I found a small black rug at Marshalls that goes very well with the baby's bedding set. My husband does not particularly like big area rugs, so the small oval rug was a compromise. I added a small wooden chair with a bunny, a birdcage with tulle ribbon and a toilet paper storage basket which I decorated with purple ribbon and satin roses. The items add a touch to the black and cream bedding set and is in keeping with our royal vintage baby nursery design.

I bought three large butterflies, from a local store, that we hung from the ceiling over the changing table. We used white satin ribbon in order to give a more luxurious feeling to the room and to also add to the fantasy. There are also three white medium butterflies that I scattered over the room. There are several baskets and keepsakes that I decorated with satin ribbon and satin roses and flowers.

I decorated the picture frame and spray-painted mirrors, bought at Marshalls, with paper flowers bought from eBay. I also used a vintage looking picture frame and cross that adds to the royal vintage nursery theme.

How did you store all your baby goodies? In baskets, on shelves?

The baby's goodies are stored in baskets, the closet, and in her dresser.

How long did it take you? Was it easy, fun, difficult? What was your favorite part?

It took us about two and a half months to complete the nursery. My husband and I have very busy schedules. I had fun in the process. I truly enjoy putting ideas into action. My favorite part was the things (ribbon, trim, flowers and little details) that I personally made and added to the room.

Did you do the entire nursery on your own or did someone help you? Who? What did they do?

My husband helped a lot with the more physical aspects of the project. I had the vision in my mind and we worked together to make it a reality.

What do you love most about your little one's finished room?

The thing I love the most about Giuliana's room is sitting in the rocking chair with my Little Princess and enjoying the whole effect that the Royal Vintage nursery has on me.
