Owl and Giraffes Nursery

I have always had a love for owls and giraffes and wanted a baby room that was gender neutral and whimsical. I have so many childhood memories grabbing my favorite book and reading with my mom and dad. I wanted my baby to have this same experience with a room full of books, stuffed animals, and colors!

What brand and color of paint did you use?

Valspar passive gray

If you added stripes, polka dots or other paint effects, tell us how you did it.

We used painters tape and the black and decker leveler. The black and decker level is a must have when doing stripes!

What brand of crib did you buy? Where from?

We bought our crib on amazon.com and it is from the davinici collection. Very affordable!

What brand of furniture did you choose? Where did you buy it?

We got the rocker as a present from our mom and originally it was brown with brown covers. We spray painted it then covered it with premier print chevron fabric from fabric.com

What bedding set did you use? Where did you buy it?

I was very fortunate to not have to buy my bedding, only the fabric. We used premier print giselle giraffe fabric from fabric.com and sewed the bed skirt. The sheets were made with fabric from Joanns.

Tell us about your window treatments, lighting, rugs, wall decor and accessories. Where did you buy them - were any handmade?

Dresser- White addison dresser with ikea white baskets.

Window curtains- Found at

amazon.com under "white sheer curtain shade"

Window valance- premier print fabric from fabric.com.

Hanging light-Ikea and the night stand is also from Ikea with a yellow ball trim lace from Joanns.

Wall decor- My friend made the "mason" wall decor and the "owl will always love you" using coral draw. The picture frames were goodwill and Ikea finds. Some had to be spray painted white.

How did you store all your baby goodies? In baskets, on shelves?

I used an Ikea basket from Ikea then put cardboard as a base and covered the base with the Giselle fabric. All babies clothes are in the addison dresser.

How long did it take you? Was it easy, fun, difficult? What was your favorite part?

This was definitely a work in progress! Every weekend my husband and I would focus on doing one project. It was definitely a bonding experience and we had a blast doing it together!

Did you do the entire nursery on your own or did someone help you? Who? What did they do?

My husband was a huge help in making this nursery! My mother in law taught me how to sew so she is to thank too! My friend Stephanie is also a great designer so a lot of the wall art was a big help.

What do you love most about your little one's finished room?

I love the fun colors and book shelf. I can't wait to get cozy with him in his PJs and read to him in this room!
