Handmade Nursery Flowers and Clouds

The flowers and clouds on the wall are completely hand made. We tried to make a large flower out of every flower that appears on the crib bedding and in order to match the quilted appearance of the bedding, the flowers were made out of fabric.

We have wires sewn into each petal and leaf so that they will hold their shape. The flower petals and centers are all stuck into a foam block and pinned to the wall.

The stems are made out of plastic tubing and wrapped loosely in fabric to give a bunched look.

Each flower has hand stitched decorations, and each flower is made out of a different type of fabric so that when Abby gets curious about different textures and feelings, she can learn by touching the flowers on her wall and get all types of different stimulation from them.

I wanted the clouds to match the messy/playful look of the quilting in the room so they are cut out of cardboard. They were then painted the blue of the wall and sponged over with white. We then used liquid starch on pillow stuffing and stuck it to the cardboard. You can see a little bit of blue through the stuffing (because of the sponging) so it gives the clouds more dimension and makes them look more realistic.
