Baby's Owl Nest Nursery

Since we chose not to find out the sex of the baby, we decided to go with a theme that would work for a boy or girl. An owl nursery really appealed to us in that it is an ideal gender-neutral theme, still kiddish enough, but not over the top like Micky Mouse or Winnie the Pooh. We kept the color palette neutral and the furniture contemporary.

The Crib and Dresser were hand me downs from my sister who originally purchased them from Babies-R-Us in 2006. We updated them my giving them a fresh coat of white paint and replaced the boring wooden knobs to something more unique. Knobs purchased from Anthropologie.

The crib bedding is from Serena and Lily, Sprout collection.

The room has brand new wooden shutters and new burbur carpet. As for wall decor, we added a wall decal which is a tree with two owls perched on it. This was purchased on etsy.com. Colors were chosen carefully to fit well with the color palette we had going on already.

I also found 4 owl folders at Target in their stationary section. I purchased these folders and merely framed them in white metal frames I got at Michaels. The white frames pick up on all the white accents in the room.

We have quite a few items in the dresser, baskets in the closets, and daily use items such as diapers, creams, lotions, etc stored in canvas totes/organizers on the dresser and hung behind the door.

It took about a total of 4 months, starting from the brainstorming phase until our vision came to fruition.

The love and effort that my husband and I put into making the perfect nursery for our new addition is what means the most. I cannot wait to bring baby home and place him/her in the crib in their new room which Mommy & Daddy designed especially for them!

TIP: If painting or making your own tree seems a bit daunting, try an easy stick, removable tree wall decal. There are lots of beautiful ones available and they really brighten up the room!
