Practical Baby Room Design Tips to Ensure That Your Baby Nursery is as Easy to Use as it is Beautiful...

Designing and decorating your baby's room is, without doubt, one of the best parts of being pregnant. Creating a special baby nursery is so exciting and it's a wonderful outlet for all the love welling up inside you for this little person that you haven't even met.

But don't let your excitement get the better of you to the extent that you can't use your nursery room when it's finished. While it is supposed to be beautiful it also has to be practical.

Here Are My Top Baby Room Design Tips...

  • If you have a choice of rooms available, choose the room closest to yours for your baby room. Shorter walks will be much appreciated when you are up for the third time in the middle of the night. Read more about which room is best for babys room.

  • Don't buy anything that you cannot wash or throw away when baby spits up, pees or poos on it.

You know it's going to happen sooner or later, and you don't want to spend those first few precious weeks worrying more about your high-thread-count Persian rug than your high-maintenance-newborn baby!

Things to think about here are your crib bedding set, your nursery rug and your glider or rocking chair upholstery (look for removable, washable covers).

  • Make sure the chair you are going to use for feeding is comfortable for your back and neck if you have to sit in it for a while. You will spend looooong periods in this chair - it will become like a second home!

You also need to be able to get in and out of it easily without using your hands. Don't forget you will have a sleeping baby in your arms much of the time.

Find out more about how to select the best nursery rocking chair or nursery glider here.

Along the same lines, find a nursery room rug that will not get dirty, wrinkle up or move every time you walk in or out of the room.

Your baby room design is beautiful and perfect and a constantly skew rug is going to drive you nuts. (Been there, done that!)

  • Find out how to draw a floor plan before you buy your furniture to see if you are going to have enough space in the room.

Rearrange things until you are happy about space, position of plugs, windows etc.

If things are too cramped try using one of these baby room design space saving solutions.

  • Think carefully about your layout. Here are a few things to bear in mind:

    • Make sure you have enough plug points in the right places for things like lamps, night lights, humidifiers, wipe warmers, bottle warmers etc.
    • Put a table of some sort next to the chair. This will become home to tissues, half-used bottles, spare emergency pacifiers, extra bibs and burp cloths and all manner of other things.
    • Keep your diapers and wipes under, next to or above your changing table within easy reach.
    • Don't have your changer too far from your crib. You want to complete those night time changes with the minimum of fuss and cold air.
    • Make sure your night light is easy to reach and operate in the middle of the night.
    • Include a clock in the room. You should be able to see it easily from your feeding chair.

Visit Dimplesanddandelions.com for a wide range of absolutely gorgeous nursery clocks.

  • Don't skimp on storage space. You need easy, quick access to everything in the early months. If you need help with this check out these great nursery storage solutions.

  • Set up an easy to use bathing station, preferably in the nursery right next to your changer. It makes life so much easier.

If your bathing station is not in the nursery, make sure you have a warm changing surface nearby.

  • Think about temperature and install the necessary heaters and ceiling fans before baby arrives.

You won't have time to go shopping for a heater after baby comes home, and getting up at three in the morning in the middle of winter with no heater is no fun! (Been there, done that too!)
