Babe In The Woods Nursery Idea

My Babe in the Woods nursery idea evolved from the fact that I used to work for a paper supplier before I had kids, and still have friends in the industry.

Basically, I was given some offcuts that were leftover from a print run, and they were of an odd size no good for any other commercial job.

Then one day, before the 2nd babe was born, I just thought the brown offcuts would make a terrific tree, and I had plenty of green too, to cut out leaves. So I just got cutting and shaping and sticking and worked on it as it grew across the room!

I made the word 'baby' out of decorative reeds and fastened at points with florists wire to form the letters needed.

Since then, I've actually moved the two boys into the one room - the tree mural remains, but I've taken down the word 'baby' and instead have hung cameos I made of the boys from the 'tree branches', and also the first initial of their names.

This is a really simple and very effective way to create a tree design in your baby nursery.

If you want to jazz it up a bit, many nursery themes would benefit from the inclusion of this type of mural. Here are a few ideas.

  • Add a couple of dangling creepers and include it in a Jungle Nursery Theme.
  • Add a few colorful parrots to the branches and you could be in the rainforest.
  • Include squirrels and rabbits for a beautiful woodland theme.
  • Add the tree to your bugs and flowers design to give it some depth.


These are just a few of many possibilities. Use your imagination!

Wow! This is simply lovely and most of all creative. It's obvious so much handwork was put into it.
It reminds me of when i was a teacher decorating my classroom before a new term.
