My Creative Journey

Home ~ About Me
Hello everyone. I’m Helen.
Welcome to my Creative Paradise!

This is my husband, Grant, and my three gorgeous girls: Samantha (7), Jessica (4), and Sarah (1 month old in this picture!).
We share our home in Cape Town, South Africa with our two dogs, Nutmeg and Rusty, our three cats, Mowdie, Cuddles and Socks, and our five fish - no they do not have names!
I enjoy spending time in nature, drawing, painting and reading. I spend way too much time on the internet, ordering kids' books online - (sshhh... I think I'm an addict!) I'm also passionate about food and wine and I love animals...
...Yes that IS a camel!
When it's time to relax, I love to take long quiet walks on the beach and luxurious hot soaks in the tub - if I can keep the kids out of the bathroom!
For as far back as I can remember, I have loved to create. Whether it was changing my bedroom around, or learning new crafts, I was always into something. As a young child at school, I loved art, cooking, sewing and even the boy-stuff like woodwork, metalwork and technical drawing.
Over the years, I have dabbled in all sorts of art forms, such as pottery, photography (which I am totally hooked on), fabric painting, decoupage, embroidery and quilting. The next projects I want to tackle are ceramic painting and planting my own vegetable garden - actually, it's the keeping it alive that I'm worried about, but that's another story.
I was born in the UK and moved to South Africa, with my family, when I was 12 years old.
Over time, I have fallen in love with Cape Town, and the land and people of my beloved home South Africa.
After school, I studied to be a Chartered Accountant. My practical side thought it was a good idea, but...
...my creative side did not agree. It rebelled and eventually won the battle in 1999 when, 4 years after qualifying, I left the field of accounting never to return - Yeah!! Hubby and I had spent the previous two years in the UK, saving up some money so that I could stay home with the children I was longing to have.
We saved the amount we needed to pay off our little house and car, and there was enough left over for a trip around South Africa in our old caravan. It was our little home away from home and we loved it. We took our old jalopy bike with us (for which we had great affection) and biked our way around most of South Africa. It was an experience I will never forget...
At the end of our trip, we came back down to earth with a thump and started our job hunt. In the meantime, I fell pregnant with Samantha. Hubby and I decided that I should stay home and rest through my pregnancy - I know - incredibly spoilt!! And I spent nine blissful months decorating our house and experimenting with different art forms to my heart's content.
Samantha was born in June 2000 and my love affair with 'everything baby' had begun. Baby smells, baby toes, precious baby smiles - I just adore them!!
From the union of my love of art in all its forms, and my love of babies in all their forms, my passion for creating perfect little baby spaces was born.
Since then I have designed four baby nurseries, 2 kids rooms and a playroom of my own and have also helped a few of my friends. With each room I do, I learn new things, and find new ways to make it special. I guess that's why I love creating baby and kids' rooms so much. There is always something new to try. From spots to stripes, from blocks to stars, anything goes. Your baby's nursery is a blank canvas just waiting for you to paint your dream.
One day I would love to open a baby nursery design business, or maybe even a restaurant- who knows? But for now, 'baby love' is winning the day. Sarah, my latest blessing, was born in April last year.
I want to spend every possible moment with her, so for now, it's work from home for me. And that's where this website comes in. If I can't go out there and create magical baby rooms myself, the next best thing I can do, is to help other moms to do it for themselves.
And so - that's my goal...
To help you to create a very special Baby Nursery for YOUR very special little person...
